Stephen Buday, MD is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has been a board certified surgeon with Metropolitan Surgery since it’s establishment in 1975.  He completed his medical degree at the Ohio State University and his surgical residency training at Mount Carmel Health System.

Dr. Buday is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the Ohio State Medical Association.  He is active in education and training of the surgical residents, and is the physician facilitator for the weekly Journal Club.

Dr. Buday participates in Multidisciplinary Tumor Board and has a special interest in breast diseases and endocrine disorders.

Lowell Chambers, MD is a board certified surgeon with the Metropolitan Surgery division and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  His received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky and his surgical training was completed at Mount Carmel Health System.

Dr. Chambers has extensive trauma experience as a result of his service to our country as a Navy surgeon in Iraq.  He has a special interest in trauma and critical care, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic surgery.

Dr. Chambers is active in resident education, serving as the Associate Program Director for the Mount Carmel Surgical Residency Program.  He has several papers published in peer-reviewed journals.

Patricia Smith Choban, M.D. is a board certified, talented surgeon with Mid Ohio Surgical Associates and serves as the program director for bariatric surgery for the Mount Carmel West Hospital and is an adjunct professor of human nutrition at The Ohio State University. Dr. Choban completed her medical doctorate at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. She finished her residency at Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine, where she also completed a fellowship in Clinical Nutrition. Dr. Choban is nationally renowned for her work in bariatrics. She was appointed National Faculty for Bariatric Surgery by the American College of Surgeons in 2003 and was appointed to the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) panel reviewing the “LAPBAND” device. Among her professional affiliations are the American Institute of Nutrition, the American Obesity Association, American Society for Clinical Nutrition and American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. She is also a fellow with the American College of Surgeons. In her free time, Dr. Choban enjoys needlework and attending sporting events with her husband and two sons.

Ghaleb Ali Hannun, M.D. is a board certified surgeon specializing in general, breast and vascular surgery with Mid Ohio Surgical Associates.

Dr. Hannun attended medical school at Cairo University in Egypt where he completed an internship and residency training. Domestically, he interned at the Wheeling West Virginia Hospital and completed residency training at Mount Carmel Medical Center.

Currently, Dr. Hannun serves on several committees for the Mount Carmel Medical Center including chairman of the Credentials Committee, a member of the advisory committee for the Treatment and Bionics Institute, and chief investigator for the Intra-abdominal Sepsis Study among others.

He is also a member of the American Medical Association, Columbus Vascular Society, Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, Society of Laparoscopic Surgery, American College of Surgeons and the Medical Staff Committee.

Jason Keith, MD is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a board certified surgeon with Metropolitan Surgery.  He received his medical training at the Ohio State University and performed his surgical residency at Mount Carmel Health System.

Dr. Keith has a special interest in Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) and has performed over one hundred cases in this emerging surgical technique.  He is active in the training and education of the surgical residents.

Dr. Keith is a member of the Ohio State Medical Association and serves on several committees for hospital administration and patient care.

Steven Reitz, MD is the newest physician member with Metropolitan Surgery, Inc.  He received his medical degree from the Medical University of Ohio at Toledo, and completed his surgical residency as Chief Academic Resident at Mount Carmel Health System.

Dr. Reitz is active with the education and training of the Mount Carmel surgical residents.  He has several publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Reitz has special interest in advanced laparoscopic procedures.

Kristine Slam, MD is a board certified surgeon with Metropolitan Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.  She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio and completed her surgical training at the University of Toledo.

Dr. Slam serves as the Medical Director of Cancer Services at Mount Carmel East Hospital and facilitates the Multidisciplinary Tumor Board at this location.  She has published over ten papers in peer-reviewed journals and has given several invited lectures on breast diseases and breast cancer.

Dr. Slam is active in the surgical residency program with resident education.  She serves as the Secretary of the Department of Surgery and participates on several hospital administrative committees.

Jeffrey Turner, MD is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a board certified surgeon with Metropolitan Surgery.  He received his medical degree from Wright State University, and completed his surgical residency at Mount Carmel Health.

Dr. Turner is the current Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Mount Carmel East.  He serves on several hospital committees involving patient safety and hospital efficiency.     

Dr. Turner is an active participant in the surgical residency program with training and education, and was selected as teacher of the year by the residents in 2009.   He is also active in the trauma program at Mount Carmel West Hospital and is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) physician instructor.

Thomas Vara, MD is a board certified surgeon with Metropolitan Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  He received his medical degree from the Ohio State University and completed his surgical residency at Mount Carmel Health System.

Dr. Vara serves on several committees at Mount Carmel East and Taylor Station Surgical Center to advance patient care and hospital efficiency.   He is an active resident educator and participates in weekly surgical conferences for the program.

Adam M. Zochowski, M.D. is a board certified surgeon in the areas of general and breast surgery with Mid Ohio Surgical Associates.

Dr. Zochowski earned his medical degree at Wright State University School of Medicine where he also completed his residency. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, Ohio State Medical Association and the Columbus Medical Association.

Committed to education, Dr. Zochowski serves on the clinical faculty with the Mount Carmel Surgical Residency program, as an assistant professor of surgery at The Ohio State University and an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor.
